EPR in Hungary: what online sellers need to know in 2026

By the EPRIVA editorial team · reviewed by a specialist · updated 27 September 2026
In short
If you sell goods into Hungary, you have as a rule been subject to Hungarian extended producer responsibility since July 2023: registration, classification (KF codes) and one report per quarter. Foreign online sellers meet these obligations through an authorised representative established in Hungary.

Who is affected?

Any company that places products or packaged goods on the Hungarian market for the first time – including from abroad, whether through its own webshop or marketplaces such as Amazon and Kaufland.

What are the obligations?

Registration with OKIR and MOHU, assigning every product and packaging component to a material stream and KF code, and one quarterly report – each due by the 20th day of the following month.

What happens in case of non-compliance?

For quantities that were not reported, the Hungarian penalty regulation provides for a fine of 50% of the EPR fee attributable to them – on top of the fee itself.
